Israeli strikes kill at least three Palestinians in Gaza, medics say

Israeli airstrikes killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to health officials and medics. One of those killed was the son of Munir Al-Bursh, director-general of Gaza’s health ministry.
Basir Al-Bursh was killed in a strike near Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, medics and family members said. The Israeli military said it had struck several militants in Gaza that day, including Basir Al-Bursh, but did not provide further details.
Family members and medics said Munir Al-Bursh had previously lost a daughter in an Israeli airstrike in December 2023 and was wounded in that attack. Video obtained by Reuters showed him carrying his son’s body to an ambulance as mourners gathered outside Al Shifa Hospital.
Two other Palestinians were killed in separate strikes, according to Gaza’s civil defence service and medics. One died in Shejaia, east of Gaza City, while another was killed when a vehicle was struck in the Sheikh Radwan district.
The Israeli military said the Sheikh Radwan strike targeted a Hamas militant. Hamas, which runs Gaza, did not immediately comment on the reported strikes.
The latest deaths came as efforts to end the conflict remained stalled. A US-brokered ceasefire agreed last year provides for the eventual reconstruction of Gaza, but negotiators have made little progress on disagreements over Hamas disarmament and an Israeli troop withdrawal.
Palestinian authorities say more than 73,000 people have been killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel in October 2023.
Gaza health officials say more than 1,300 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed since the ceasefire took effect. The Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period.
