Pennsylvania Measles Cases Reach 1,286 as Outbreak Continues

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania

October 19, 2026 — Pennsylvania reported 1,286 measles cases on Monday, an increase of 26 since Friday, as the highly contagious disease continues to spread across the state, according to the Pennsylvania Health Department.

State data showed 247 measles-related hospitalizations so far this year. Pennsylvania has also reported five deaths linked to measles.

Nationally, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had recorded 4,410 measles cases as of October 15, according to data cited in the report. The CDC has confirmed two measles-associated deaths in 2026 but has not identified the states where they occurred.

The outbreak has prompted additional federal support. Last week, the CDC said it would provide further assistance to Pennsylvania to help investigate the spread of the disease.

Measles is highly contagious, making outbreaks a public health concern, particularly when the virus reaches communities with limited protection against infection. Health officials continue to monitor case numbers and investigate the outbreak as infections rise.

The latest figures underline the continuing burden of measles in Pennsylvania, where cases, hospitalizations and reported deaths have made the outbreak a significant public health issue.
