Eight Injured in Supermarket Stabbing in South Korea's Incheon
SEOUL — October 13, 2026
Eight people were injured in a stabbing at a supermarket in Incheon, South Korea, on Tuesday, police said. One of the victims, a woman in her 20s, suffered cardiac arrest, according to local media reports.
Police arrested a male suspect at the scene and began investigating the circumstances and motive behind the attack. Authorities have not publicly established what led to the violence.
A witness cited by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said the suspect appeared to have knives attached to both hands. The witness said the man moved through several floors of the shopping complex, attacking people before bystanders subdued him and handed him over to police.
The injured included six women and two men, according to local media reports. The suspect was described in those reports as a man in his 60s who was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. Police have not publicly confirmed all the details reported about the suspect.
Incheon lies west of Seoul and is part of the wider Seoul metropolitan area. It is also home to South Korea's main international airport, making it an important transport and commercial centre.
The incident has renewed attention on public safety in South Korea, which experienced several high-profile stabbing attacks in 2023. Some of those incidents caused multiple deaths and injuries.
In a separate case in May 2026, a 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed and another teenager was injured in the southwestern city of Gwangju. A man in his 20s was later sentenced to life in prison for that attack.
The investigation in Incheon remains ongoing. Police have not yet disclosed a motive, and further details about the suspect and the victims may emerge as inquiries continue.
